New York: Exhibit and Chef Picks for this Week’s Art Dating and Matchmaking

Christy Dusablon presents her picks this weekend for the best places to see art, dine and have a night on the town! If you have a hot gallery, museum, exhibit, chef, or performing arts event you’d like to see on Art Date, email Christy at christy@artandliving.com.

The American Museum of Natural History offers visitors a chance to get up-close-and-personal with things that are usually out of our reach. It’s an educational journey through space and time–from the day of the dinosaurs to Lucy, our three-million-year-old human ancestor, there’s a multitude of fascinating things to wander through and wonder about here. Right now, The Butterfly Conservatory is back for its tenth year. It was such a hit the past years it seemed only natural to give visitors the pleasure of re-experiencing exotic butterflies in their re-created natural habitat. So use the museum and its fascinating show to provide a stepping stone into deeper discussion with your date!

But before jetting over to the museum, check out Calle Ocho, a hip New York restaurant where old Cuba and contemporary America cross paths. It’s necessary to leave the city at least once a week and this restaurant is the Havana escape you’ve been looking for. Get friendly with a local in one of Calle Ocho’s lounge banquettes while sipping a mojito. And you have to nibble on one of the many ceviche options the restaurant has to offer! Don’t worry–if one just isn’t enough, choose four and make your own sample platter. Personally, I am a brunch-kind-of-gal and if a man wants to win me over, Havana, mimosas (because one isn’t enough) and a Spanish omelet are the ways to this girls heart! And guys–I’m certain that I’m not the only one!
