Art and Living is proud to support the Zimmer Children’s Museum and its current Show & Tell: The Art of Vision exhibition and fundraiser.
Art of Vision artwork was donated by over 70 artists to help support the Zimmer’s youTHink arts education program in public schools. The youTHink initiative utilizes the power of making art to foster students’ critical thinking about contemporary issues and empowers them to find and use their voices to take action for positive social change.

Robin Rice Gallery is showing Jose Picayo’s new exhibit Mug Shots through June 22, 2008. With this exhibition, Picayo attempts to get away from “artificial beauty,” which he contends has become a standard for our society. Picayo asks the question: what does the real face of humanity look like? The exhibit is an examination of bare beauty — without make-up, without help, flawed. I’m happy to let the public in on this exhibit in that it reveals some poignant truths about what we are and what society has become.

ModernbookGallery in Palo Alto is showing Claudia Kunin’s new exhibit titled 3-D Ghost Stories. Her work offers a new kind of mythology, making bold statements about heaven, hell, earth and life. Her latest photography collections, Ghost Stories and Holy Ghost Stories, rise out of an imagination influenced by visionaries such as Caravaggio and Bosch. Kunin first shoots the images and then assembles them through Photoshop, producing a final image that requires 3-D glasses to view. The process adds a whole new dimension to her photography.

Winston Churchill is best known for his leadership of Great Britain during WWII, and his historic speeches. Yet, few people realize his brilliance as a painter. Normally, Churchill paintings are not sold in the United States. They are usually reserved for sales in the United Kingdom. This Wednesday, April 23, 2008, a Winston Churchill original will be auctioned at Bonhams in New York City. To date this is the sixth Churchill painting sold in the United States over the past twenty years.

As a way to kick off their 50th year of existence in style, L.A. Mart and L.A. Mart Design Center held a gala celebration to christen the center’s new, Christopher Gaona-designed main lobby on January 10.
