After many years of struggling and working to make it happen, a 2 1/2–acre park honoring the legendary guitarist was inaugurated with a joyous and decidedly musical public event. The park’s within walking distance of Hendrix’s Central District childhood home, an historically black neighborhood in Seattle, now undergoing rapid gentrification. It’s a living, fitting tribute to a man who, through his music, will never die.
