Ferris Olin, Ph.D. co-directs the Institute for Women and Art at Rutgers University with Judith K. Brodsky, founder of the Brodsky Center for Innovative Print in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The institute opened in 2006 with the mission of joining the forces of feminist artists, writers and teachers and bringing more widespread visibility to women’s art. “I was honored in great company,” says Olin. “We are all passionate in our mission and it’s my life’s work.”

As she listens to the designer, Wendy is mentally trying to match what she has on hand with what the client wants. “Our inventory is closed,” she says. “So unless I want to be pulling out a hundred carpets, I need to have a pretty good idea of what they’re looking for.”
