RENAISSANCE MAN
WING T. CHAO
An enduring legacy at Disney

When a guest visits a Disney resort anywhere in the world and notices Disney character art in the fabrics, the furniture, the carpets, the marble, light fixtures and the wrought iron grille work, a smile is almost sure to follow.
So many of the details that surprise and delight children and adults alike and make their entertainment experience special are the works of Wing T. Chao, who was the chief architect and master planner for Disney.
For almost 37 years, Chao created hundreds of projects worth more than $8 billion. Chao’s touch can be seen everywhere you look: the resorts, the parks, the restaurants, the retail shops, the vacation clubs, the entertainment centers, the Disney Cruise Line, the sports centers, the office buildings and the new planned communities.

Interior Designer of Crystals
Crystals is “a 21st-century abstract park,” says architect David Rockwell. Is he for real? Crystals is a half million square feet of retail, entertainment and some impressive interior spaces. It’s not necessarily a place where ducks waddle around.

The designer behind one of Greystone’s revamped bedrooms and its adjoining bathroom and patio reveals she’s got more on her plate than her dining creations
Sitting in the sun-drenched breakfast nook of her Beverly Hills home overlooking her beloved garden with her parrots talking away, Barbara Lazaroff is surrounded by a large, colorful canvas, fancifully painted ceramic vases and plates by artist Anna Silver and a piece by sculptor Robert Graham. One thing about this virtuoso of pigment is clear—her world is one that is most unquestionably rich in color.
